This is helpful in understanding people with opposite political views from yours. For years I have used a similar comparison using the difference between women and men. It is less likely to cause an argument that way. The facts I present are: a dark street and a man leaning on a lamppost. A woman will see these facts and react differently than a man would for obvious reasons. So to with politics, the facts are the same but the left and right react differently to them.
