Samsung Galaxy Breaks Easier Than Apple’s IPhone in Tests - Bloomberg
The Samsung Galaxy S4 is bigger, lighter and faster than its predecessor. It’s also easier to break, a phone-insurance firm has concluded.
The flagship phone by Samsung Electronics Co. (005930) also scored worse than Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s iPhone 5 in tests in which the phone was dropped and dunked in water, SquareTrade Inc. said today. On a scale of one to 10, with 10 being worst, the S4 got a seven, compared with a 6.5 for its older cousin, the S3, and a five for the iPhone. ...

The George Jones Sound

The George Jones Sound
http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/culture/2013/04/george-jones-voice-dies.html

george-jones-580.jpg

"George Jones, the man with perhaps the most distinctive and iconic voice in country music, died on Friday in Nashville at the age of eighty-one.

In the first moments after the news broke, thousands of people reached the same conclusion at the same time, a nice instance of hive-mind solidarity, and the Spotify and YouTube tracking numbers will surely reveal a massive spike for his song "He Stopped Loving Her Today," which is one of the great sad songs in the American songbook, written by Bobby Braddock and Curly Putman. Jones took it to No. 1 on the country charts in 1980. Great artists are always preparing us for their deaths, giving us, through their careers, the tools with which to remember them. But rarely is a song so apt. "He Stopped Loving Her Today" is the ur-country story song, about a man who'd never gotten over his broken heart. The man kept a picture of his old flame by his bed, and her old letters, where he'd underlined "Every single 'I love you.' " The man had lived in torment, released only by death. The chorus goes like this:

He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today.

" ...

That song is so sad I've never been able to listen to it all the way to the end.

White House Admits 2012 Was Costliest for Regulation

"In a long-awaited report to Congress on the costs and benefits of federal regulation, the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) conceded 2012 was the costliest year ever for red tape. With $19.5 billion in regulatory costs, 2012 topped the next highest cost year by 57 percent. But that's only the tip of the iceberg. The report, which was well overdue, also failed to record costs of six "economically significant" regulations. AAF's tally has last year's regulatory cost at$215 billion – still a pure addition of administration data."

"It is entirely ... inexplicable why the Department of Homeland Security needs so much ammunition," Chaffetz, R-Utah, said at a hearing. ..."

It's not really inexplicable. One explanation could be that they're trying to removal bullets from the market. They failed at taking away our guns, now if they take away our bullets, we won't have anything to put in our guns. Far-fetched? Maybe.

Spring Sprung

Several weeks ago actually. I'll be doing my fourth grass mowing tomorrow. The tulips and daffodils and other bulb flowers are spent and the hostas and iris's are coming up nicely. Later today I'll be harvesting my first rhubarb for the season and soon I'll be planting tomatoes and other veggies. I'm trying something new this year, Straw Bale Gardening where you use a straw bale as a planter. I'm doing this on my front stoop to see if the animals who like my garden way to much won't come up the steps. I'll also plant tomatoes in the garden for them.

After I got the straw bales my neighbor told me about the Mobile Vegetable Patch which I would have liked even better. Just fill the base with water and you're done.

Spring bulb blooms may be finished but the gardening isn't

"Daffodils, crocus, hyacinths- spring bulbs like these put on a glorious show for a few weeks a year. Having just enjoyed the colorful display, many home gardeners wonder about how to best put spring bulbs to bed for the summer. Here are the answers to frequently asked questions regarding bulb care in late spring." ...

Professor who Called Republicans “Racist” is Democratic Operative

Professor who Called Republicans “Racist” is Democratic Operative | FOX News & Commentary: Todd Starnes

A University of Southern California professor who told students that Republicans are “stupid and racist” is a longtime Democratic operative who critics say has a reputation as a political propagandist.
Political Science professor Darry Sragow’s attacks on Republicans were secretly filmed by one of his students – a libertarian who had grown tired of the left-wing ranting of his professors.
“They’re really stupid and racist,” Sragow said during one lecture. “They Republican Party is increasingly the last refuge of old, angry white people who don’t like what’s going on in this country.”
At one point Sragow’s teaching assistant advocated using the Black Panthers to intimidate Republican voters.
“Yeah, yeah – you can do that,” the professor replied.
Darry Sragow is well-known across California – not for being a professor – but for being a Democratic operative. ...

Obamas' Tax Return Shows Lower Earnings - WSJ.com

Obamas' Tax Return Shows Lower Earnings - WSJ.com

WASHINGTON—President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama paid $112,214 in federal income taxes in 2012 on adjusted gross income of $608,611, an effective rate of 18.4%, the White House said Friday.
The first family's income declined from the $789,674 in adjusted gross income they reported in 2011. That year they paid total federal taxes of $162,074, an effective rate of 20.5%. Their 2012 income continues a steep decline from 2010 when they reported $1.7 million in adjusted gross income, the bulk of which was royalties from sales from books written by Mr. Obama.
The Obamas paid $29,450 in state income tax to Illinois for 2012.
As in recent years, the Obamas made significant contributions to charity. In 2012, they gave $150,034—or about 24.6% of their adjusted gross income—to 33 different charities. The largest reported gift to charity was $103,871 to the Fisher House Foundation, a group that provides free housing to family members of injured military veterans. ...

I'm surprised and a little disappointed that Drudge is making such a big deal about this by saying his tax rate is just 18%.

Article: The Lesson of Sequestration

"The Lesson of Sequestration

Before the March 1 sequestration deadline, Americans heard in the media that some would lose their jobs or receive a pay cut if Congress didn't act to prevent automatic, across-the-board spending cuts. However, if the first few weeks of sequestration are any indication, it has actually helped our economy, and it could be proving what budget-conscious pundits have been saying for years: we can't spend money we don't have.

As sequestration approached, fear mongering abounded. Breathless media reporting, fueled by presidential hyperbole, made it sound like the 5 percent cut in non-defense discretionary spending would bring about the downfall of the republic. Education Secretary Arne Duncan said, "There are literally teachers now who are getting pink slips," because of sequestration. President Obama said it too; Capitol Hill janitors "just got a pay cut."

Bloomberg Tees Off, Says Gov. Cuomo Partly To Blame For Circus In Albany

Bloomberg Tees Off, Says Gov. Cuomo Partly To Blame For Circus In Albany « CBS New York

"NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — It was the ultimate putdown of state lawmakers caught in the corruption spotlight. Mayor Michael Bloomberg said they’re not qualified to get real jobs.
The circus has returned to Albany.
The man known in some parts as “El Bloombito” took out his rapier to cut state lawmakers down to size with a jab only a self-made billionaire could fire off, CBS 2′s Marcia Kramer reported Friday.
“The average legislator who has to make policy on things that influence our lives, our kids’ lives, our future, would they ever get a job in the private sector making policy on big things? No, not a chance,” Bloomberg said.
After a week of almost non-stop corruption revelations, includingcharges that Bronx Assemblyman Eric Stevenson took bribes to write a bill to help his friends, Bloomberg also included Gov. Andrew Cuomo in his revulsion of all things Albany, implying that one of the things that aids corruption is the practice of the governor sending lawmakers something called a “message of necessity” so a bill can pass quickly, without anyone having a the chance to study it.
“Why can’t you give it time? Well, the answer is they don’t want anybody to see it. That’s the only explanation,” Bloomberg said. ..."

Nurse-Practitioners: The Answer to the Doctor Shortage?

Nurse-Practitioners: The Answer to the Doctor Shortage? – AARP
Let’s do the math: We have nearly 30 million uninsured people about to get medical coverage under the health care law come January. And we have a projected shortage of 45,000 primary care physicians by 2020. Add to that the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), with 43,000 members who say they can offer basic care if state laws would just let them set up an independent practice without doctor supervision.
And the answer is …
The nurse-practitioners, of course, say it’s a matter of simple addition: New laws are needed to give them more autonomy.
But doctors say it’s a miscalculation to think that patient safety won’t be compromised by not having a doctor overseeing things. Family physicians have more than four times as much education and training, accumulating an average of 21,700 hours, whereas nurse-practitioners receive 5,350 hours, the American Academy of Family Physicians points out.
This is from the AARP who pushed for Obamacare because they are also an insurance company and not just any insurance company, they are the MOST EXPENSIVE insurance company. In my opinion they suck, they are lying scum and they cheat the very people they claim to represent. Screw them!
