Without getting into a discussion on what it should be, what's fair and all that. I just want to discuss what happens when it goes up. Based on my experience hourly employees value themselves on how much over the minimum wage they make. When it goes up those people want to get a raise so they maintain that difference. They will be unhappy and feel underpaid if they don't get that raise.
Raising the minimum wage has more of an impact than most people grasp. Some people don't understand this, they think statically. They don't understand the effect changing something as fundamental as this will have. They just assume this extra cost will come from employer profits. What actually happens is quite different. Businesses have to maintain a certain profit to stay in business. When a cost goes up they have to offset that by cutting costs or raising prices. Raising prices is never a good idea because when something is more expensive people buy less of it. That would kill the business. So cutting costs is what is usually done. That means cutting the labor costs because other costs usually can't be cut, rent, utilities, etc. They will cut labor costs by a combination of shorter hours, eliminating some jobs and asking people to work harder to get the job done. The effect of all this is that workers on the low end of the wage scale will be the first hurt which is exactly the people the proponents of raising the minimum wage want to help.

Not Phil Robertson that's for sure. I've seen these things develop before and the only recourse A&E has now is to apologize to Phil, blame it on some mid level slump and fire that poor sucker. This was all so predictable. Liberals are inept when it comes to doing so many things. There is a world of difference between, "Wouldn't it be nice if etc" and actually making it nice. So, sure, it would be nice if everyone had health insurance but they are finding out it isn't so easy to actually do that. I have no confidence in inept people doing complicated things. In this day and age of Amazon and a million other websites doing much more complicated things successfully, it is embarrassing that they couldn't get this right. Come on, it's a website any 12 year old could have built.

UN's massive new climate report adds little explanation for 'pause' in warming | Fox News
An enormous U.N. report on the scientific data behind global warming was made available Monday, yet it offers little concrete explanation for an earthly oddity: the planet’s climate has hit the pause button.
Since 1998, there has been no significant increase in global average surface temperature, and some areas -- notably the Northern Hemisphere -- have actually cooled. The 2,200-page new Technical Reportattributes that to a combination of several factors, including natural variability, reduced heating from the sun and the ocean acting like a “heat sink” to suck up extra warmth in the atmosphere.
One problem with that conclusion, according to some climate scientists, is that the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has limited the hiatus to 10-15 years. Anastasios Tsonis, distinguished professor at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, believes the pause will last much longer than that. ...Yeah sure, global warming is real, yeah right got it... Except that the facts don't support it.

I was sitting at PT with an ice pack on my knee when the guy next to me started talking about healthcare. I wasn't too interested in talking about it but to be nice I went along. It quickly turned into a lecture from him. He never wanted to hear anything I had to say and interrupted me often. Liberals never want to discuss anything, they just want to preach their -flip card- doctrine. I've learned long ago not to bother with them but I was trapped with that ice pack on my knee. In mid sentence, his, not mine, the therapist came by to remove the ice pack. I used the opportunity to escape with the liberal still talking. I said, "Nice to meet you, gotta go" and left. he probably thought he had converted me because I didn't respond to his speech. He didn't, he just reinforced my conviction that liberals lean to the idiot side and aren't worth the time or effort to debate them.
The average IQ is 100. That means that half the people are below 100. Now we know where all the liberals come from...
